These questions are related to FMH's ban of VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) is examining FMH's ban in further detail. Their "reasons" for the ban don't seem to coincide with their Patient Bill of Rights or ACOG's (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) recommendations. Please read further if you are affected by this ban, or C-sections at FMH in general. Thank you!

If you had a previous cesarean, has FMH advised you of the risks and benefits of having a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC)?

If you have been told you have to have another cesarean, has your caregiver covered the risks of the surgery with you?

Science has proven that a woman can have a vaginal birth after a c-section. The doctors are now making the insisions different so that it is possible for future vaginal births. So when I read this posting about the FMH saying no I was outraged !!! I had a c-section with my first child and my doctor made the insisions so I could give birth vaginally in the future. The FMH is simply trying to force women into having another c-section because it means a ton more money for them. Think about it, it's a surgical proceedure. Science speaks for itself and that's why the (International Cesarean Awareness Network) is investigating the FMH. The FMH is taking our rights away so they can make more money.

Hi mombabygirl2,
If you are outraged, please contact our ICAN rep, Barbara Stratton at womancaredoula@comcast.net

She is in need of some help getting info from FMH, etc.
Thanks,
Emily

I am just as outraged about FMH's decision! I email and speak quite frequently to Barbara Stratton, she's a very nice woman who is hard at work trying to get this decision overturned.

Glad to have another mom on board to fight this thing.

Last I heard, Shady Grove Hospital in Gaithersburg is still allowing VBAC's.

Sarah
