I'm not sure if this is good advice or not but my mom used to use pepper. When I smarted off she would take me into the kitchen and pour some pepper in her hand, grab a pinch, put it in my mouth, and I had to stand there with the pepper in my mouth for a minute or so without swallowing it. I'm not sure if that was a good thing or not but that's what she did. Of course she used to slap my mouth too but I won't recommend that to anyone.lol.
